Mental Health Research Showcase 2008

The fourth Alberta Mental Health Research Showcase continued the tradition of advancing mental health through research.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the Showcase, participants will be able to:
- Describe the concepts of knowledge translation, how they can be applied
in mental health, and where to identify resources available to assist in knowledge
exchange.
- Show how evidence can be used to effect change.
- Learn how to influence policy using knowledge translations principles.
- Understand the importance of the latest research on suickde prevention and
the early detection of psychosis in youth.
- Benchmark children's mental health programs from other jurisdictions into
their own organizations as appropriate.
- Apply the research on assessment of violence, risk and threat to increase
safety.
- Apply principles of addicionts treatment being used successfully in other
areas to their own area of practice.
- Outline the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder on individuals in
the workplace and on families.
- Identify opportunities for employers, employees and other stakeholders to
improve workplace mental health.
- Examine the continuing challenge of stigma, and apply what they have learned
in their work.
